Hi, I’m Cal, also known as @social.sauna. I am a sauna lover from Wales, but based in Helsinki, and a proud member of #FinlandSaunaTeam.
I created Public Sauna Guide as people often ask me about public saunas: When are they open? Do I have to be naked? Can women and men bathe together? Is there good löyly and avanto (steam and ice swimming)? Hopefully, Public Sauna Guide can answer these questions.
Where have I actually visited?
🇫🇮 Helsinki: Kotiharju, Löyly, Furuvik Rantasauna, Sompasauna, Kulttuurisauna, Löylykontti, Uunisaari Sauna, Yrjönkadun uimahalli, Allas Pool, Uusi Sauna, Lonna, Sauna Hermanni, Lähteen Sauna, Aalto Sauna Pihlajasaari, Suomen Saunaseuran, Saunavision, World Sauna Day Furuvik, saunat.fi , sauna2| 🇫🇮 Vantaa: Cafe Kuusijärvi | 🇫🇮 Espoo: Laguuni, Löylykontti | 🇫🇮 Rest of Finland: Rauhaniemi, Rovaniemi pop-up, Tupaswilla, Sataman Villu, Savutuvan, Aurora Village Ivalo | 🇪🇪 Tallinn: Kalma saun, Raua saun | 🇩🇪 Berlin: Swedding, Liquidrom, Kiez Sauna, Boiler | 🇳🇴 Oslo: SALT | 🇬🇪 Georgia: Chreli-Abano | 🏴 Wales: Môr A Sawna | Plus many more private saunas and pop-up events.
This isn’t a review website, not at the moment at least, but hopefully it’s a useful resource for anyone who wants to begin exploring the relaxing, social, and warming world of public saunas.
As time allows, I’ll aim to add more cities to Public Sauna Guide. I also hope to promote other awesome events like World Sauna Day, and make some simple self-guide tours for visitors to Helsinki.
But truthfully, this website is just a bit of fun for me, so expect delays and the occasional piece of outdated information.
Where do the photos come from?
A mix of from saunas themselves, taken myself, or free to use images from city tourist boards.
Outside of Public Sauna Guide I am working on bigger and bolder sauna project, so keep your eyes for more under my @social.sauna brand.
If you’d like to connect, feel free to message me on Instagram (pics below) or find me in a Helsinki public sauna.
Hyvää löyly suomi & bra bastu för alla.
